Writing Wednesday: "Filling the Well, Stocking the Pond"

According to Julia Cameron, author of The Artist's Way, "Filling the well involves the active pursuit of images to refresh our artistic resevoirs. Art is born in attention. Its midwife is detail... In filling the well, think magic. Think delight. Think fun."

She also says, "Art is the imagination at play in the field of time. Let yourself play."

Let's face it, we're all busy. And overwhelmed. And stressed. When was the last time you took a few hours to just relax and enjoy nature?

My neighbor and I took a few hours this week to visit the local Heritage Museums and Gardens, located in Sandwich, Massachusetts. It's on Cape Cod but it's also a totally different face of Cape Cod than we usually see. No lighthouses or beaches, but beautiful flowers, shrubs, sweeping meadows, paths around the lake, art exhibits and herb gardens. I've visited many times with my children and with my Girl Scout troop, but never on my own or with only adults. What fun!

Make a plan and write it down. Do something for yourself to refill your creative well. What are you going to do?

In case you're visiting Cape Cod any time soon, think about stopping by the Heritage Museum and Gardens. Well worth the trip!
