What Will the Book Maven Say about My Kind of Crazy??

Jackie, a.k.a. that reviewer known as The Book Maven, has agreed to read, review and feature my book on her blog this week! I'm keeping my fingers crossed that she liked it!

She had originally said the post would be up on July 21, but... As of today, it's not there yet.

I'm gonna keep checking, even though I know you're not supposed to hound reviewers, or care about reviews.

I have 71 reviews for this book on Amazon at the moment - most of them positive. A few constructive. A few had me scratching my head.

MY TAKE:

First of all, I don't like the book blurb. At the same time it tells too much and too little. I'm not sure how I would rewrite it, but it doesn't give a truly enticing description of the story.

Because make no mistake. This in an enticing story.

First, you need to read book one of this series to understand the conflicts within this world, the Power of the Light, the Gifts and Implanting... and the sheer goodness and magnetism of Petra. He's an awesome guy, and you don't get his awesomeness at first when you read this story without book one. So go back, read the first book in the series Queen of Jastain. I loved and reviewed it last summer - read my thoughts HERE.

Where the first book was a time-travel romance, however, this one isn't. This is more of a swashbuckling fantasy with pirates versus royalty set firmly in Kary Rader's world of Jastain and its surrounding islands, seas and territories. Which is fine. And I like it. But it's different. Not really in the same style as the first book, which is more a warning than a criticism.

When we first meet Charlee, our erstwhile heroine, she's not a likeable character. In fact, I actively disliked her for a while there, wondering if there might be another heroine lurking somewhere I could root for. But she grows on you. And you do start rooting for her, despite her quirks and insecurities. And there are several twists to the plot that surprised me, even though I thought I had it all figured out.

Would I recommend this for summer reading? If you like swashbuckling pirate tales, strong female characters, and a hint of magic sprinkled over it all, definitely toss this one into your beach bag or load it onto your Kindle.

A large black wolf trotted into the clearing to confront me. He had a white-tipped snout, white boots and mitts and would have looked cute had he not been the most intimidating Werewolf I’d ever seen. Standing tall and solid, power rolled off of his body. His eyes bore into mine. I sniffed the air. The strong Werewolf scent of rosemary swirled around me, strong and seductive, laced with sugar. A weird fuzzy sensation spread out from my chest. Whoa.

Alpha.

My other form growled low, demanding release, straining against my skin. The energy of the wolves built—layers upon layers of excitement and impatience. The air pulsated with anticipation. They could sense the imminent kill.

Let me out! My other form repeated, throwing her power against my built up walls, howling in defiance.

When the energy of the Werewolves surged, I finally released her. My wolf form flowed out fast, wiping out the feline in little more than a heartbeat. Smaller, weaker and the size of a natural wolf, a Shifter in this form was no match for a Werewolf, especially a dominant one. I had time to meet the eyes of the Alpha for only an instant before the pack leapt forward. My limbs shook. It went against every instinct ingrained within me, but I rolled onto my back—submissive.
