B is for... Bookclub...
I've been invited to visit and speak with a Bookclub next Tuesday night, a prospect that is both exciting and ABSOLUTELY TERRIFYING. Perhaps B really stands for BAD IDEA...
What do I say? What if they didn't like my Book? What do I talk about? Why did I agree to do this in the first place????
There will be wine served, which is a good thing... but I probably shouldn't drink anything but Black coffee since I have to drive home afterward. Although I'm sure it'll make me seem more amusing to those who do imbibe...
Have you ever spoken to a Bookclub? Any advice? Words of Wisdom? Good excuses for Backing out at the last minute?
P.S. (again, nothing to do with B, and again, who cares?) If you haven't been to the Older Mommy Still Yummy blog, click on the title to check it out! She's posting a recipe a day for this blogfest! A was for Artichoke Dip - wicked easy and Yum!
Sounds scary. Let us know how it goes (and what you spoke about).

It does sound scary, but it also sounds fun! I'm sure you'll have nothing to worry about. And you'll definitely have to tell us all about it afterwards. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Katie .. Bookclub - I've never been to one of those .. one day perhaps! But public speaking however small .. isn't my cup of tea! Good luck -I'm sure all will be well ... and you're right I did see the Artichoke Dip yesterday & thought Yummy too .. cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteGood luck and let us know if you come out alive! Seriously, everything will be fine and you'll be blogging about it when we get to "s" for success :)

As scary as it sounds, it also sounds like it could be really fun. Enjoy it. I'm sure you'll do great!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you'll have fun :) Even I've never been to one of those...Do keep us posted on how it turns out!
ReplyDeleteLove all your covers!
Followed you from A-Z challenge :)
If they didn't like your book, I don't think they would have asked you to speak. You'll be okay.

I'm sure you'll do great. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great opportunity. I, too, would be nervous. But clearly they want you there for a reason.
ReplyDeleteI read your bio and understand the road you are on right now to publishing. It is a bit more challenging with a job and kids. I know...I have those, too, and am still seeking a book deal. Don't give up.
I love speaking directly with the author at book club events. We've never had one to our little group but our local Indie bookstore hosts them from time to time. Personally my favorite book club discussions are ones where not every single person loved or hated the book. A mixture of opinions makes for more interesting chatter. I'm sure everyone will be nice! Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteLove the way you're doing the A to Z Challenge. I have spoken to groups before about my books. They mostly want to know how you became a writer. Good luck. Hope you'll stop by my blog, too. www.widowsphere.blogspot.com Thelma Z, your newest follower.
ReplyDeleteI used to be in a book club but after the initial penny selection they jacked up the price. *Cue rimshot* Sorry, bad joke.
ReplyDeleteYou shouldn't be nervous, book clubs that I've been in loved to talk with authors and to ask tons of questions.
Great way to do the challenge. Good luck with the talk. My posts are here i hope you find time to take a look.

Speaking in front of people... ahhh... practice makes perfect.
ReplyDeleteI live in terror of being invited to JOIN a book club, never mind speaking in front of one!
ReplyDeleteOh, you'll have fun - just relax and be yourself. It'll be fine.
I love your postscript - I will be sure to visit the blog you recommended, as I could stand to stock up on some new recipes. It's much more compelling to click on a "recommended" blog than to simply go down the list of participants!

Any advice? Words of Wisdom? Good excuses for Backing out at the last minute?
ReplyDeleteLOL! I'm really bad with public speaking, so I don't envy you - although you have to admit it is pretty cool that they're featuring your book.
A Piece of My Mind
I am scheduled to speak at 3 book clubs this summer and I am trying to Be Brave...
ReplyDeleteThe whole book release thing has me feeling Bittersweet...
Good luck have 1 glass of wine for your nerves and I am sure you will be Brilliant:)
I've never spoken to a book club, but it must feel pretty daunting. The uncertainty of whether people will like your work is quite a scary position.

I've never spoken at a book club, but I think it's a necessity for anyone who has a book to promote.
ReplyDeleteGood luck. I'm sure you'll do great.
Contrary to my usual practice of subscribing to comments, to save time during challenge I will not be doing so during April. If you want to respond to my comment , please email me directly from your email notification for the comment.
Thanks.

You'll do great. Just think you're in front of a group of your friends.... which you are.
ReplyDeleteI love to read but speaking - I'd be hiding under the table! Good luck! I'm visiting from the A-Z Blogging Challenge. Have a wonderful Sunday and a great A-Z April!
ReplyDeleteMany Thanks to all of you for all of the encouragement! I'm going to take a deep Breath and plunge in to the whole Book club experience... I'll let you know how it goes ;-)
ReplyDeleteHave fun with it. You will do great!
ReplyDeleteI was invited to speak to a book club once and was scared too but they were lovely. They couldn't do enough to make me feel welcome... and they gave me a little gift for giving up my time. Enjoy.
ReplyDeleteIt should be fine.
ReplyDeleteAnd you'll do great, I'm sure. Enjoy.

Never been to a book club, except back in my school days. But I'm sure you'll gain much satisfaction from the experience!
ReplyDeleteVisiting from the A-Z Challenge. Just bring a really neat book cover along and, if things get hairy discussing the book, show them how you made the cover! Deflect! Deflect! Deflect!

ReplyDeleteI'm betting you nailed that bookclub gig, Katie, and enjoyed it thoroughly! It's been my experience that despite advance worrying, we soon relax among others who love books as dearly as we do...:)
