E is for... Excellent Evening

E is for... Excellent Evening

I want to thank Julie's book club for a most Excellent Evening last night, as they gathered to discuss my novel, PERFECT STRANGERS. The women were Enthusiastic and gracious, and not Even a little bit mean. Except Julie. Once or twice. Like when she asked, "What was it like writing those sexual Encounters?" I answered, "Hard!" ...and she made a face, accompanied by a quip that sent the group into gales of laughter... Okay, not so very mean at all, I guess.

It was fun.

It was, dare I say, Excellent.

I know my novel is not the usual book club fare - c'mon, their last book was Wuthering Heights - but as one of the women named Ellen said, "This was such a guilty pleasure to read."

I'll take that as a most-Excellent compliment.

Everyone asked a lot of good questions about the writing process, about the publishing industry... and then specifics about the characters - where they come from, do I draw from real life, am I the main character (no)... and who would I cast as the leads in my dream movie. Luckily, I'd already thought long and hard about that last one for an interview I did for Romancing the Book last month... Channing Tatum and Amy Adams were my top picks, although Ellen suggested Keith Urban for the hero and I'd have to agree he'd make an Excellent hero...

The only drawback to the Evening was that I had to leave and drive the 2 hours home again, to be here for the morning rush in my household. All you parents understand what I mean. Getting 3 kids and 3 dogs up and ready for school and whatnot... but I'm so very glad that I went.

Thanks again, ladies, for an Excellent Evening.

  9. Hi Katie! I can't imagine anything much more exciting than to watch people discuss your very own book! I've dreamed of being an author all my life, and will not stop trying. My blog is just practice. I home school my kids so I haven't started writing THE BOOK yet ;-) Though I do have an idea file, and I'm doing research.
