Monday Book Review: A Magical Highland Solstice, by Mary Morgan #HolidayBooks

A Magical Highland Solstice, by Mary Morgan
Published December 2016 by The Wild Rose Press

About the Book:
Laird Cormac Murray has witnessed how love destroyed his own father after the death of his mother, and he vows to never take a wife. Yet, when he comes upon a bewildered lass traveling alone, he finds his heart will no longer listen to his mind. In the end, Cormac risks everything to claim the love of a woman not of his time.

Eve Brannigan loves helping others and baking. After winning a contest, she is stunned to learn that the Clan Murray has requested her assistance to cater to their guests during the holiday season. When a lost path in Scotland leads her to a handsome but gruff Highlander, Eve fights the temptation to allow love to enter her heart for the first time.

Can the Fae and the magic of the Yule season bring together two souls who have forsaken love? Or will tragedies from the past separate the lovers forever?
My Take:

What a wonderful, magical time travel tale of finding true love and soul mates! I loved every minute of this fast, engaging read!

Both the hero and heroine are selfless characters, dedicating their lives to helping others... which is why the fae decide to bring the two disparate souls together and give them a chance at a happily ever after.

Cormac Murray is a Scottish highlander lord from the 1200s, whose clan has endured a rough year of war and is looking forward to enjoying a festive Solstice. Unfortunately, a child's prank has the castle's kitchen in disarray, leaving the clan in dire need of a new cook and baker for the upcoming feast.

We meet Eve as she competes in --and wins-- a baking competition. She plans to use the prize money to fix her car and get her neighbor's furnace repaired, but at the last minute gives the money to another friend who's husband lost his job. When she returns to her apartment building, she finds new landlords have miraculously completed all the repairs - and then she's invited to Scotland to bake for a Solstice celebration in the Murray castle, which is now a high end resort.

On her way to the resort, Eve takes a tumble through time and ends up on Cormac's doorstep, so to speak. He needs help in his kitchen... but he also is the first to realize that Eve is a visitor from the future, like others he has met before. It's love at first sight, but Cormac tries his hardest to deny the attraction or the emotions she stirs in him because he doesn't feel worthy of love. Which makes him all the more worthy, of course!

If you love hot highlanders and holiday tales of romance, you have to read this story. Readers of Diane Gabaldon's Outlander series will love Mary Morgan's hot time traveling highlanders. Start with this one for the holidays!
