Moongypsy Press Closes Its Doors

Moongypsy Press announced this week that they will be suspending operations until mid-January. At that time, they hope to either reopen as a boutique publisher (10 authors or less) or sell the business.

MP is the publisher of my second book, Perfect Strangers. The CEO has offered to return rights to the authors, which I have written and requested. But what do I do with them? I'm in a quandry and am not sure where to start, or whether to just keep going with the new manuscripts I'm working on.

Has this happened to any of you? Any advice will be most appreciated as I absorb this news...

  1. I'm sorry to hear about your publisher closing, or reorganizing.

If you have the rights, it really is up to you. You can self-publish or find another publisher that accepts previously published works (there are a few).

I had a publisher close on me before my novelette was out, so I got my rights and submitted it elsewhere. I had another short story with them published, but I haven't done anything with it yet.

  2. Wow. So sorry to hear about this. Unfortunately, I haven't been through this one. But ditto what Cherie said.

  3. Sorry your publisher is closing. I had one go bankrupt and it took months for a judge to give us back our rights. My books under contract hadn't been released and it took months for a judge to give us back our rights. Look into self publishing and keep on working on the new stuff.

  4. Just stopping to say hi and thanks for visiting my blog. Sorry to hear about your publisher upheaval issues. The others here seem to have solid advice though.
