B is for... Bookclub

B is for... Bookclub...

I've been invited to visit and speak with a Bookclub next Tuesday night, a prospect that is both exciting and ABSOLUTELY TERRIFYING. Perhaps B really stands for BAD IDEA...
What do I say? What if they didn't like my Book? What do I talk about? Why did I agree to do this in the first place????

There will be wine served, which is a good thing... but I probably shouldn't drink anything but Black coffee since I have to drive home afterward. Although I'm sure it'll make me seem more amusing to those who do imbibe...

Have you ever spoken to a Bookclub? Any advice? Words of Wisdom? Good excuses for Backing out at the last minute?

P.S. (again, nothing to do with B, and again, who cares?) If you haven't been to the Older Mommy Still Yummy blog, click on the title to check it out! She's posting a recipe a day for this blogfest! A was for Artichoke Dip - wicked easy and Yum!

  7. If they didn't like your book, I don't think they would have asked you to speak. You'll be okay.

  9. What a great opportunity. I, too, would be nervous. But clearly they want you there for a reason.
I read your bio and understand the road you are on right now to publishing. It is a bit more challenging with a job and kids. I know...I have those, too, and am still seeking a book deal. Don't give up.

  10. I love speaking directly with the author at book club events. We've never had one to our little group but our local Indie bookstore hosts them from time to time. Personally my favorite book club discussions are ones where not every single person loved or hated the book. A mixture of opinions makes for more interesting chatter. I'm sure everyone will be nice! Enjoy!

  11. Love the way you're doing the A to Z Challenge. I have spoken to groups before about my books. They mostly want to know how you became a writer. Good luck. Hope you'll stop by my blog, too. www.widowsphere.blogspot.com Thelma Z, your newest follower.

  12. I used to be in a book club but after the initial penny selection they jacked up the price. *Cue rimshot* Sorry, bad joke.

You shouldn't be nervous, book clubs that I've been in loved to talk with authors and to ask tons of questions.

  14. Speaking in front of people... ahhh... practice makes perfect.

  15. I live in terror of being invited to JOIN a book club, never mind speaking in front of one!

Oh, you'll have fun - just relax and be yourself. It'll be fine.

I love your postscript - I will be sure to visit the blog you recommended, as I could stand to stock up on some new recipes. It's much more compelling to click on a "recommended" blog than to simply go down the list of participants!

LOL! I'm really bad with public speaking, so I don't envy you - although you have to admit it is pretty cool that they're featuring your book.

  19. I've never spoken to a book club, but it must feel pretty daunting. The uncertainty of whether people will like your work is quite a scary position.

  20. I've never spoken at a book club, but I think it's a necessity for anyone who has a book to promote.
Good luck. I'm sure you'll do great.

Contrary to my usual practice of subscribing to comments, to save time during challenge I will not be doing so during April. If you want to respond to my comment , please email me directly from your email notification for the comment.

  25. I was invited to speak to a book club once and was scared too but they were lovely. They couldn't do enough to make me feel welcome... and they gave me a little gift for giving up my time. Enjoy.
